Bach Flower EssencesThe Bach flower essences were created by Dr Edward Bach in the 1930’s. They are a natural way of healing the individual by focussing on the emotional state rather than the physical disease.
He discovered that certain flowers and trees contain a particular essence in which to help particular emotional states. Our thought patterns govern our emotions and our emotions govern our thoughts. When we feel negative this can manifest into imbalances in our physical and emotional selves.
Dr Bach found 12 remedies that helped to balance out these negative thought patterns. These included: Agrimony, Centaury, Cerato, Chicory, Clematis, Gentian, Impatiens, Mimulus, Rock Rose, Scleranthus, Vervain, and Water Violet. In 1933 he discovered the 7 helper remedies and treated patients accordingly. Then later in 1934 he completed the series with the last 19 remedies in Oxfordshire.
The total of 38 remedies were placed under 7 headings of different emotional states which prevent us from being healthy within and being our true selves:
• Fear • Uncertainty • Insufficient interest in present circumstances • Loneliness • Over-sensitive to influences and ideas • Despondency or despair • Over-care for the welfare of others.
By working with these remedies and taking the essences in water these conflicts can be transformed from the above to; Peace, Hope, Joy, Faith, Certainty, Wisdom and Love. Finding the route course to all disease is necessary to find balance and harmony in our lives. Dr Bach wrote:
‘It means doing the housekeeping, painting, farming, acting, or serving our fellow men in shops and houses. And this work, whatever it may be, if we love it above all else, is… the work we have to do in this world, and in which alone we can be our true selves.’Dr Edward Bach

'Learning.''After a while you learn the subtle difference Between holding a hand and chaining a soul, And you learn that love doesn’t mean leaning And company doesn’t mean security. And you begin to learn that kisses aren’t contracts And presents aren’t promises – And you begin to accept your defeats With your head up and your eyes open And with the grace of an adult, not the Grief of a child. And you learn to build all your roads on today Because tomorrow’s ground is too uncertain For your plans. After a while you learn that even sunshine Burns if you get too much. So plant your own garden and decorate Your own soul – instead of waiting for Someone to bring you flowers. And you will learn that you really can endure, That you really are special. And that you really do have worth. So live to learn and know yourself. In doing so, you will learn to live.'
